Italy Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma Named Player Of Euro 2020 TournamentJuly 12, 2021
Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has been named Uefa’s player of the tournament for Euro 2020.
The 22-year-old, who is set to join Paris St-Germain from AC Milan, saved two penalties in the Azzurri’s shootout win over England, which gave them a first European title since 1968.
Donnarumma, who denied Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka from the spot, kept three clean sheets in the tournament.
He is only the second keeper to win the award, after Peter Schmeichel in 1992.
Donnarumma played 719 minutes across Euro 2020 – more than any other player.
Speaking after the win over England, he said:
“We were amazing. We didn’t give up an inch.
“We did it from scratch, we are a fantastic team and we deserve this success.”
