Arsenal 3 Leicester City 1: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil make it 10 wins in a row for Unai Emery
Mesut Ozil has certainly earned his £350,000 this week. In a true captain’s display the German inspired Arsenal to turn an early deficit into the most resounding of 3-1 wins over Leicester.
A goal, an assist and a pre-assist do not do justice to one of the best performances the once club record signing has ever put in in an Arsenal shirt. So often chastised for going missing when his team-mates need him most, tonight Ozil put in a captain’s performance Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira would have been proud of, turning the tide and ensuring Unai Emery now has 10 wins in a row.
As has become their custom this season Arsenal hit new heights in the second half, though it was not without its early moments early on as Ndidi saw a header cannon back off the bar.
But just as the nerves began to jangle, in came Ozil. A delicious pass split two Leicester lines apart before Bellerin cut back for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to tap in with his first touch.
Three minutes later the game was over; at least it ended on a high. Ozil’s dummy of Bellerin’s pass infield allowed Lacazette to flick the ball in behind to the 30-year-old, who could easily have slotted past Schmeichel but instead handed Aubameyang an open goal with a flick of the outside of his left boot.
In 21 minutes Ozil had turned what looked like a certain defeat into a commanding victory. What more could you ask for from your skipper?
